Heath is as "old" as Mere now!! He just hit 26

Heath is 26. We celebrated Heath's birthday a few day late because his sister was graduating on his birthday and we were not all going to be able to get together for his birthday.

Heath and Mere at the party.

Hooray-Hooray for the 8th of May

Steve Vernon taught me to remember his birthday by the saying above. That is so clever. We celebrated Steve's birthday at their home on the 8th of May. I just didn't take any pictures that night. So for this post, I am uploading a picture that I took the next week at Geoff's college graduation. The picture is Steve, Ilene, Goeff and his fiance Amy.

Steve and Ilene are getting ready to travel to the Ukraine(I think, I may have to edit the country, it is beside Russia), to do mission work for a few weeks. Ilene's sister, Pam is married to Paul Chinikiniada, who is Russian. Paul and Pam, Steve and Ilene and two of their nieces have this wonderful opportunity to go and do mission work in that country. Paul, who speaks Russian will be able to preach over there and Ilene is working with small children. Pray for them as they go on this trip that the Lord will bless their work.

Steve is also the one that started the "blog" thing and really aroused my curiosity on blogging. I thought "if he can do this, so can I". It has been fun Steve, thank you for introducing me to blogging.

Steve is married to Ilene and they have two sons, Goeff and Tim. Geoff just graduated from Texas Tech with a Chemical Engineering degree and will be moving to Houston this week to start his new job with British Petroleum. Geoff is engaged to Amy, an accounting major, who will join him in Houston in December. Their wedding is in January. Tim is a student at South Plains and he has been blessed with musical talents. I am not sure what his major is.

Ilene is a buyer for Roden Smith here in Clovis. She is looking forward to adding another female to the family.

We will be praying for you guys.

Love Sandy

I just received an e-mail from the Vernons and here is the blog that will keep up with their daily activities in the Ukraine.

Cinco de Mayo at the Rutherfords

May 5th - Cinco de Mayo

Ok, so we aren't hispanic, it was a reason to celebrate friendship. Meredith and Heath decided today to have a few people over for a celebration of this holiday. What better home to celebrate a spanish holiday? We had burritos, nachos, quesadillas, whatever you chose to make for yourself and then came the desserts. They were wonderful.

Once again, a time to be with friends and laugh.

Kathy and Mere made those wonderful slushy drinks that were served at Mere's bridesmaids luncheon.
We had a lemon lime and a strawberry drink.

The pictures say it all.
Now we can get ready for Juneteenth!!! (Lucy, we will celebrate this in your honor). Lucy is my multicultural friend. She attends all the ethnic events in the area.
Happy May to all of you who did not celebrate this holiday.
The next special event? "hooray, hooray for the 8th of May". How old will you be Steve? 39? Steve and Ilene are barely keeping up with us in age. Really, you will be 42?
And then there is the 10th of May, our son-in-laws 26 Birthday. Heath, we do remember you have a special day coming.
We are getting ready for graduations from High School, wedding showers, weddings, we are gearing up for this busy season, the next four months.
